GYPSY BLOOD

Leo Maguire has recently shot the opening title sequence for his 90 minute documentary for Channel Four, provisionally titled 'Gypsy Blood' Shooting multiple pass on the Cannon 5d, Leo used family photographs to tell the story of two violent enemies growing up side by side and ending with an explosive result. Look out for this fantastic documentary coming out early 2012.

 

FOR NO GOOD REASON MOVIE TRAILER

The trailer for Charlie Paul's long awaited feature documentary 'For No Good Reason' has now been released.

This visually stunning journey of artist and cartoonist Ralph Streadman's life has an amazing cast including Johnny Depp, Richard E Grant, Terry Gilliam and Bruce Robinson along with an incredible line-up of musicians Slash, the All American Rejects, Jason Mraz, Crystal Castles, Ed Hardcourt and Beth Orton.

Made over fifteen years, the film is shot on almost every format and for the first time we see Steadman's art animated including illustrations from Hunter S Thompson's Fear & Loathing in Las Vagas.

 

NEW COVENT GARDEN SOUP

These New Covent Garden Soup magical commercials are a superb example of motion control at its best, utilising three different film speeds, whilst combining stop motion, drawn animation, live action and time lapse.

Directed by Charlie Paul, shot on 35mm film at the Itch motion control studio for McCann Erickson Manchester. Edited by Julian Tranquille at Cut & Run and post production by Marcus Wood and Brian Carbin at Rushes.

 

AVONMORE

Charlie Paul directed fourteen of these Avonmore Cream spots to playout in Ireland throughout 2011 before and after the National Weather broadcasts. Filmed on 35mm these beautifully crafted stings were shot on the Itch motion control rig at our central London studio.

 

PATAKS

The challenge for this commercial was to show and describe how to make a delicious Biryani in under 10 seconds! Shot on 35 mm with motion control director Charlie Paul, it involved tight synchronisation in the adding of ingredients and delivery of delicious looking hot food, while the camera needed to appear in nearly impossible places like the inside of the oven as the gas flame is ignited. The end result delivers gorgeous food that looks decidedly easy to make at home! This film is designed to appear alongside the Pataks brand ads using the same musical track to tie them in.

 

ERISTOFF

This series of product end frames for Eristoff’s commercial featuring the wolf at night was created to evoke an intense and exciting series of moody bottle and drink shots. Director Charlie Paul explains, “Because the bottle has lots of detail, spins into camera, with the moon rising through it and the glass of vodka is live and next to the bottle, a complicated series of passes were shot to give post production plenty of material to work with to make the whole picture look fantastic.” Compositing work was at Rushes Post Production by Adam Watson and Omar Akarri who added lightening and atmosphere for this stunning end result matching the feel of the commercial.

 

WAITROSE

Shot in the Itch Film Motion Control Rig Studio using the rig to run the Canon 5D Mark II, live action camera moves were captured as JPEG sequences. Simple lighting and a clean white set created the clear landscape for Golden Square's, Harry Jarman, to make the camera pull back revealing the hundreds of products on offer.

 

CHERRYWOOD CANNON

‘Cherrywood Cannon’ focuses on themes of paranoia, selfishness and violence, fuelled by fear, in this dark twisted fable.

The 6 minute film Directed by Charlie Paul comes from a publication with original art by Ralph Steadman. The tale is masterfully brought to life in an epic animation journey, taking four years to create and worked on solely by Kevin Richards. 3D layers expertly crafted by Marcus Wood of Rushes Post Production.

Richard E Grant provides the perfect read for this harrowing story with music by award winning Brothers from Others accentuating the frenzied violence.

‘Cherrywood Cannon’ emerged out of Charlie Paul’s feature documentary in the making for fifteen years about Ralph Steadman. ‘For No Good Reason’ which is due for release in 2012.

 

ALDI

Charlie Paul contiues his beautiful food photography combined with natural elements for the 'Fruit & Veg' campaign for Aldi Supermarkets. Shot on 35mm using the motion control rig at Itch Studio, with Post Production handled by Rushes.
